More information about these  8 types of justice can be found within the Cinereach toolkit.

What will the games be judged on?

Judges will be asked to evaluate submissions based on the following criteria:
1) Narrative storytelling, , 2) creativity and artfulness, 3) entertainment value, and 4) incorporation of the justice themes and integration of the Cinereach workshop toolkit principles.

What is the breakdown of the finalist pool?

Depending on the size of the submission pool and the quality of the submissions, we are currently targeting an estimated 10 - 20% of the submissions to be selected as finalists with a maximum of 30 finalists. Student submissions and professional developer submissions will be evaluated in different pools.

What do finalists receive?

You will be honored in an official award event at SXSW 2024 in Austin currently scheduled to take place the evening of March 9, 2024. In addition, Cinereach will offer certain finalists the opportunity to participate in a multi-week workshop  to further develop their prototype some time during fiscal year 2025 (July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025) . Workshop participants would be provided an honorarium for their time. Based on alignment with Cinereach’s mission and goals and on the results of that workshop, at Cinereach’s sole election, finalists may potentially be eligible  to be considered for further development financing from Cinereach, subject to further terms to be negotiated between the parties in good faith.

What does the grand prize winner receive?

Out of the finalist pool, there will be one grand prize winner selected to receive a $10,000 USD cash prize, which will be paid in two installments: $5,000 at the awards’ ceremony and $5,000 after successful completion of the workshop process which will occur some time during fiscal year 2025 (July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025).

Is there financial sponsorship available to attend the SXSW event?

All finalists will receive an invitation to attend the SXSW award ceremony. A festival badge will not be required to attend the SXSW award event. For travel expenses, there are limited funds ($500 USD per qualifying finalist) available to subsidize a portion of the travel expenses for those coming from a radius of over a 500 miles away from Austin-Metro area if such finalist qualifies for financial aid. To qualify for financial aid, such finalist’s annual income must either fall below $75,000 or below the area median income by such applicant’s state and metro region and also be traveling over 500 miles to attend the ceremony. For those who cannot attend in person, they can elect to be honored virtually.
